Boucherouite rugs are unique "rag rugs" crafted from repurposed textiles, including wool, cotton, threads, and other recyclable materials.

These Moroccan rugs emerged as a response to changes in rural Morocco over the past few decades, where the traditional rug culture has given way to sedentary farming and other modern forms of employment. As a result, the exclusive wool from sheep, used in the creation of Beni Ourain and Azilal rugs, has become increasingly scarce. This scarcity has made it all the more important to recycle previously used textiles, a practice that rural Moroccan women have mastered with remarkable skill.
